LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The High Court in Lilongwe has dismissed President Lazarus Chakwera and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) application seeking to restrain Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) from announcing the September 16 presidential election results.
In his ruling on Tuesday afternoon, September 23, Justice Howard Pemba said while the request for an injunction was not granted, Chakwera and MCP have been allowed to proceed with a judicial review challenging MEC’s alleged failure to address complaints of electoral irregularities.

This means MEC is free to release the official presidential results as the legal challenge continues in court.
In the elections, Chakwera is projected to lose to former president Peter Mutharika.
There has been calls from quarters of the society for Chakwera to concede defeat.
MEC is also expected to finalise remaing 12 out of 36 district councils results to determine the winner.
