Hilal Afrika donates 5million borehole to Nkhotakota community

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Hilal Afrika, a Germany-based charity organization has handed over a borehole worth MK5 million to the people of Nkholozi Village, Traditional Authority (T.A).Kanyenda in Nkhotakota.

The borehole will enable over 2,000 people accessing portable water.

Speaking during the handover ceremony on Tuesday July 2, 2023, Hilal Afrika Chairperson Umut Turan said the donation is the institution’s commitment towards uplifting rural communities’ livelihoods.

Turan added that organization’s core objective is to change the livelihoods of Malawians sustainably for the better.

A community representative Gertrude Kalemba thanked Hilal Afrika for the borehole saying portable water is answer to defeating water borne diseases adding that communities will be productive with portable water.

In his remark Chief Kholozi whose area is a beneficiary said he will engage his subjects on how best to use the boreholes.

“Women used to travel long disatances in search of clean water, as such, I urge people not to vandalise the facilities,” he said.

The project has been funded by Turkish people based in Germany Initiated and collected by Ömer Kulac and Yunus Yildirim

Hilal Afrika has been working in Malawi since 2021 and is expected to hand over 14 more boreholes in Kasungu, Salima, Nkhotakota, Ntchisi and Dedza east this month.
