BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—As international organisations are leaving no stone unturned in their campaign for minority rights,Mangochi District Council has just sent a strong message that their wishes are incompatible with other cultures by disapproving the implementation of a lesbians, gays, bisexual, trans—gender and intersex (LGBTI) rights project by the Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP) in the district.
In an interview with MANA, Mangochi District Council chairperson of health committee, Councilor Twaha Salanje said the council rejected the project because CEDEP’s motive was to promote homosexuality practices in the district.
“We are a bit skeptical with the project, we perceive it as a scapegoat to promoting justice and protection of LGBTIs when in real sense it aims at promoting homosexuality,” Salanje said.
He, therefore, said the council would not give CEDEP a go ahead to advance the rights of people with sexual minorities for fear of bringing chaos and in contradiction with Malawi’s status of being a God fearing nation.
The development comes just one month after the Executive Director for the Center for the Development of People (CEDEP), Gift Trapece accompanied by Rev. McDonald Sembereka had a tough time to convince District Executive Committee (DEC) members in Mulanje to give them a go-ahead with a minority rights centered project called Access to Justice.
Nkhata Bay District Executive Committee (DEC) also had to reserve its decision to approve the same project last month.
CEDEP is an organisation which has nothing to appoint at in the country. they should go to hell with their stupid rights.
