With about three months remaining before opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) hold elective convention in July 2023 for Malawi’s 2025 Presidential polls, there is the usual excitement that comes along with picking a party’s torch bearer and as always there is a lot of rumour mongering and mudslinging as well.
DPP has also reemerged and strongly remains the only hope to ouster Reverend Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance administration including its main partner Malawi Congress Party.
Since losing the presidential race in 2020, and with APM’s constitutional maximum two terms of leading DPP coming to an end in July 2023, DPP has been marred with a leadership crisis that party gurus keep on blaming each other for the defeat instead of banging heads for a strong united force.
The never ending Leadership crisis in DPP, which started even before the last Presidential elections, has always given Chakwera’s MCP edge in muzzling the political path DPP is taking to reclaim its lost glory.
Consequently, cracks have deepened further that senior members even dragged the party to court on internal matters that could be addressed outside courtroom.
This has also brought anxiety within local party members across the country as DPP has a number of camps for leadership instead of having one united reckoned force.
DPP’s cracks, divisions, leadership crisis continue to excite Chakwera’s MCP for an easy ride in 2025 presidential race.
Chakwera’s MCP is using all state machinery to make sure DPP is not fully operational. MCP knows fully that DPP remains popular across the country that Chakwera’s stay at State House hangs in balance.

Why is Dalitso Kabambe a threat to Chakwera, other DPP presidential aspirants?
Since Chakwera took reigns of power in 2020 July, his Tonse Alliance administration has been marred with high inflation, high cost of living, scarcity of forex or lack thereof, fuel and drugs shortages coupled with nepotism and favoritism in public officers appointments. Surely these are signs that the end is nigh.
MCP and Tonse Alliance gurus know, Chakwera is unable to bring meaningful change they promised Malawians during June 2020 Presidential elections. Instead Malawians wake up to fresh scandals almost on a daily basis.
Chakwera does not have any economic ability to end social ills Malawians have been going through since July 2020. Now, any economic sound mind that comes out now, poses a huge threat to Chakwera, MCP, and the whole Tonse alliance.
With DPP elective convention coming in July, Chakwera’s MCP is politically stressed considering the cream of aspirants who have unveiled themselves for Malawi’s leadership under DPP.
Among DPP presidential aspirants are lawyers, economists, scientists which Chakwera’s MCP do not have such top caliber at this stage.
For Malawi for reclaim its developmental agenda which the late Bingu wa Mutharika left in 2012, the country needs an experienced and accomplished economist not accountant, pastor, human rights activist, lawyers, judges.
This is the reason former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Dr. Dalitso Kabambe joined DPP presidential race to revive Bingu’s vision for Malawi and completely turn around the fortunes of the country on to a prosperous trajectory.
Dr. Kabambe is an accomplished economist who has contributed greatly to Malawi’s positive economic pathways with numerous roles played before joining DPP presidential race.
Since Dr. Kabambe came out to the public in joining politics, different narratives have also emerged to shut him from helping Malawi to reclaim its real socio-economic agenda.
Both Chakwera’s MCP and other DPP aspirants have come with numerous narratives to dent his image to the public as they know he is the man Malawi needs now.
Chakwera’s MCP and DPP aspirants narratives against Kabambe
Since Dr. Kabambe joined DPP presidential race, he has never attacked personally other presidential aspirants including Chakwera.
Through various social media platforms, Kabambe has also outlined economic pathways the nation must take which has made him popular among Malawians from all walks of life. This continues to pose threats to Chakwera’s MCP and other DPP presidential aspirants. Kabambe is playing clean politics.
This is the reason Chakwera’s MCP and other DPP aspirants have come up with desperate narratives against Kabambe including:
1.Kabambe raised his own salary when he was at Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), then he is a thief
2.Kabambe is Lomwe that he can not lead Malawi again
3.Kabambe is new in DPP that he is an ineligible presidential aspirant for July DPP elective convention
4.Kabambe is Peter Mutharika’s nephew that DPP continues to be family party.
5.Kabambe is on Peter Mutharika’s ride (He is always with APM wherever he goes) that are selling him to the public
All these narratives are a sign of desperation of the highest order with Chakwera’s MCP and other DPP aspirants. They are unable to outsmart Kabambe on economic fronts he has been dishing out to Malawians.
Kabambe is the Man, Malawians need towards agenda 2063!
