HRDC condemns brutal killing of Malawi police officer at Nsundwe

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Human Rights Defenders Coalition (HRDC) on Wednesday expressed concern over the death of a police office who was stoned to death on Tuesday at Nsundwe in Lilongwe.

Speaking to reporters, Vice Chairperson for HRDC Gift Trapence said that as institution they have always condemned any form of violence since they believe that the root way of understanding the problem is by resolving the problem in a peaceful manner.

Trapence added that this country need a good leader who can call people togethe since a good leader suppose to make his people come together wether from opposition and ruling side to ensure that this country becomes a better place everyone can live .

He went on by condemning violence and torturing of suspects in police cells when people have been arrested of incidents such as mob justice to stop and follow the constitution which says that torturing of suspects is violence of human rights.

He then called for the arrest of people who were involved in the brutally attack of the police officer, attacking and punching of the grouping’s Member Billy Mayaya, death of a child at Queen’s Elizabeth Central Hospital due to teargas during recently anti Ansah demonstrations, Isaa Njaunjo’s death, petrol-bombed of HRDC Chairpeson Timothy Mtambo house and among others.

Trapence therefore called president Peter Mutharika choose a task force of religious, traditional learders, international partners to come and discuss how they can solve the ongoing violence and havoc so that peace can prevail in in the country.

The grouping said that they will not allow Duncan Mwapatsa to be appointed as Inspector General since he has failed to work professionally and pledged to continue with the planned demonstrations of shutting down boarders will happens since they are waiting for the court injunction proceedings .

The group continues to hold demonstrations forcing MEC Chairperson Jane Ansah to resign accusing her of mishandling May 21 elections.
