“I warned before it happened”-Malawi Prophet Harrison Njiragoma speaks on SA xenophobia prophecy

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-As tensions rise in parts of South Africa over attacks targeting foreign nationals, a little-known Malawian self-proclaimed prophet, Harrison Njiragoma, has resurfaced with claims that he foretold the violence as early as mid-2025.

His statement urging Malawians not to retaliate has drawn attention online, though Njiragoma remains largely unknown in Malawi’s religious circles.

The MaraviPost reached out to Njiragoma for an exclusive interview to understand how he says he received the prophecy, what he is doing in South Africa, and how he distinguishes himself from other self-proclaimed prophets.

MaraviPost: Prophet Njiragoma, thank you for speaking with us. First, can you tell us how you came to be known as a prophet?

Njiragoma: You’re welcome. It was in 2018 when I tested HIV positive. I remembered to have heard from people testifying before the congregation at the Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (E.C.G,) of prophet Shepherd Bushiri – Major 1, as favourably called by his followers, that they’re getting healed after administering the Lion of Judah anointing oil. I used to have one myself because I was following the prophet with keen. That’s after I administered it on myself, it worked for me. And I was told by the Holy Spirit that They healed me because They wanted to use me to teach, pray and heal others who were still in my shoes. I was instructed to rise among my people, my brothers to teach them about The Living God Jehovah. And that it was declared that everyone listening and believing in the things I teach, the heavens will be opening up to such people to receive their needs.

MaraviPost: You said you prophesied about South Africa’s xenophobic violence between July and September 2025. What exactly did you see?

Njiragoma: I saw crowds in townships rising against foreign nationals. I saw landlords and landladies pointing out where foreigners lived and calling the police. I saw shops being looted and people running with their belongings. The vision was shown to me more than once. I warned that it would be catastrophic if people did not prepare.

MaraviPost: Many people claim to be prophets today. What makes you different from other self-proclaimed prophets?

Njiragoma: I have dreamt of being a Pastor or Prophet, whatsoever. I remember when I was in primary school, my elder brother, Dr Noel Dzim’nenani Mbirimtengerenji, a lecturer at the university of Malawi, Kamuzu College of Nursing – Lilongwe campus, very much wanted I could do theology and become a Seventh Day Adventist Pastor, but I declined. I have always admired and aspired political dreams. I am in the Gospel Ministry only as a pay back to God for His goodness towards my life. A passion to help and save other people’s lives from their sicknesses, situations and or issues. Nothing for personal benefit or glory.

MaraviPost: Do you run a church in Malawi or in South Africa?

Njiragoma: At first, when God told me to rise among my people, my brothers, I perceived it as a call back home to Malawi to start the ministerial work from the grassroot level. Considering that I was fished out of the Adventist church to become a prophet. A thing that is uncommon among most of the Seventh Day Adventist believers. But as time passed, God Jehovah made it clear to me that it never meant that I should go back home to start ministering. The calling is for the Malawian people in the diaspora, here in South Africa and other parts of the world. I haven’t yet started a church work on the ground due to other constraints, finances being one. When time is ripening, I intend to build a very big church THE HEAVEN’S FREE GIFT CHURCH, according to the Lord’s promise, this will replace a big Ministry here.

MaraviPost: What are you doing in South Africa?

Njiragoma: I came to South Africa for a greener pasture, but honestly my time to stay here finished long ago. I am just waiting for the grace of God to open the doors of the ministerial work here as promised, before I retire or called home to rest. But while waiting for the ministerial doors to open, I am teaching and praying for people online, particularly WhatsApp. On 22nd October, 2022, I opened a WhatsApp group called The Heaven’s Free Gift Church, a shadow of the real church’s name. I am earning a living through Electrical and Refrigeration skills acquired in school days. Currently I am working as a Freelancer Refrigeration technician/mechanic.

MaraviPost: Have you shared your prophecy with South African authorities or Malawian officials?

Njiragoma: I wish I could. But currently I have never had the opportunity to talk or meet government officials from either side – South African local authorities or their Malawian counterparts. However, I am seeing a day is very imminent whereby I will be able to interact with one or both authorities.

MaraviPost: Finally, what is your message to Malawians and other Africans in South Africa right now?

Njiragoma: Remain calm, do not retaliate, and avoid areas where crowds are gathering.

Pray for peace and keep your families informed.

The storm will pass in weeks or months. After that, life will normalize. Do not let anger destroy what you have built.
