LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera on Thursday, March 27, 2025 declared that he is not getting out of power as he remains focused on serving Malawians up to the year 2030.
President Chakwera made the remarks when he presided over the opening of the 2025 National Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Training (TEVET) Conference at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC) in the City of Lilongwe.
Chakwera said he still has unfinished business for Malawi.
He warned all lazy bones who are used to getting free things to brace for more hard times in the next five years of his rule.
Malawi leader therefore encouraged Malawians to embrace a spirit of hardwork.
He said Malawians should work hard to make more money because laziness promotes stealing.
Minister of Labour Peter Dimba hailed President Chakwera for empowering the capacity of TEVET to enhance the organization’s efficiency and competitiveness.
Dimba praised the Chakwera led administration for tripping the intake of students to TEVET Colleges from 2500 to 7000.
“Within the few years that you have been in power, you have done alot. Currently, your administration is constructing over 10000 classroom blocks in all constituencies.
“This is massive. In under three years, you have done a lot contrary to other narratives that you have done nothing,” he said.
President of Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (ECAMA) Anne Chavula said a well trained workforce is vital to the realization of the country’s development blueprint, Malawi 2063.
This being the case, says Chavula, “It is therefore important that TEVET remains responsive to daily job market changes.”
In his remarks, TEVET Authority Chairperson Pyoka Tembo said the conference gives chance to the participants to re-think, re-strategize, re-consider and realign the TEVET system to respond to emerging national development goals, labour market needs and international best practices.
The conference has brought together all stakeholders in the TEVET space such as the industry, TEVET providers, TEVET trainees and graduates, among others.
The theme for this year’s Conference is, “Enhancing Skills Development for Economic Transformation Towards Malawi 2063.”
