Jacaranda school for orphans hosts thrilling table tennis tournament

In a bid to promote table tennis and foster talent among young athletes, Jacaranda School for Orphans in Blantyre recently hosted a thrilling table tennis tournament.

The event brought together some of the school’s players and 13 players from the national camp, who are gearing up for the Africa Region 5 Games in Namibia in June.

The tournament was a true test of skill and determination, with the national camp players facing off against the Jacaranda School players in a series of intense matches.

In the end, the national camp players emerged victorious in all six categories, with Laston Isaac, Alex Banda, Joshua Somanje, Shanghai Matewere, and Amana Alibaba claiming the top spots.

Despite the outcome, the Jacaranda School players showed remarkable spirit and determination, giving the national camp players a run for their money.

According to Jacaranda executive director Luc Deschamps, the event was aimed at helping some of the school’s athletes to gain more knowledge of the sport and assist the camping players to sharpen their skills.

General secretary Daiton Matope said that they are working hard to take table tennis to every corner of Malawi and are appealing to the corporate world to support them financially.

“We believe that with the right support, we can take table tennis to new heights in Malawi,” Matope said,adding that, “We are grateful to Jacaranda School for Orphans for hosting this event and we look forward to working with them again in the future.”
