Jane Ansah Foundation supports university student with short stature

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Jane Ansah Foundation, founded by Vice President Dr Jane Ansah, has supported Kingsley James Tembo, a second-year Library and Information Sciences student at the University of Malawi, with food, groceries, pocket money, transport and school items valued at more than MK1 million.

Tembo, who has short stature, locally referred to in Chichewa as “akafula,” and comes from Kafikule Village in Mzimba, sought the foundation’s assistance because of challenges in meeting his daily needs while studying at university. The university is expected to reopen on August 31, 2026.

Tembo expressed gratitude for the support, saying it would make life easier when he returns to college. He also described his meeting with Dr Ansah at her residence in Lilongwe as warm and encouraging.

“I did not expect to be welcomed in the way I was,” Tembo said, adding that people with short stature are not always easily accepted.

He praised the foundation for extending assistance to elderly people, people with disabilities, people with albinism and others facing vulnerability, describing its work as an important initiative for Malawi.

Acting Board of Trustees Chairperson Reverend Rodgers Tenthema Edward Kamanga said the foundation’s goal is to help vulnerable people become independent through education, skills development and other forms of empowerment.

Kamanga said the foundation is reviewing a five-pillar strategic plan that includes socio-economic empowerment and is aligned with Malawi’s Vision 2063 and policies promoting inclusion.

He said Tembo’s support was intended to help him pursue his educational goals rather than remain dependent on others.

“Kingsley has a vision for his future and what he needed was a destiny helper,” Kamanga said.

Kamanga added that the foundation believes every Malawian should have access to opportunities, participate in national development and be included in society.
