Jane Ansah refused exit visa by an over-zealous immigration officer

Mutharika accepts Ansah resignation

She was in a VX registration MG236 AK

Former Chairperson Dr Jane Ansah was on Monday denied exit at Mchinji border, as she was seeking to travel to Zambia to get a flight connection to the United Kingdom for a holiday.

Gladson Luhanga, an Immigration official at the border confirmed that Ansah arrived at the border post around 7 am in a Government registered vehicle and was chauffeur driven.

Ansah, a Supreme Court of Appeal judge who is pending retirement, was alone.

Luhanga said because of Ansah’s status, he refused her exit and told her to go and seek clearance from the Office of President and Cabinet (OPC).

Ansah is said to have indicated she will seek that clearance.

The Constitutional Court found Ansah to have incompetently managed the 2019 presidential election which led to the nullification of the poll.

A fresh presidential election held on June 23 saw Tonse Alliance torch- bearer His Excellency President Dr Lazarus Chakwera emerge victorious, defeating incumbent president Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika of the DPP.

Chakwera was on Monday inaugurated as President and Commander-In-Chief of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) at a colorful ceremony at Kamuzu Barracks parade grounds in Lilongwe.

He was sworn in as the sixth President of Malawi since independence from Britain in 1964.
