Jessie Kabwira assures constituents of her allegiance to MCP despite falling out of favor with leadership: Malawi politics

SALIMA-(MaraviPost)—The main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP)’s Spokesperson Dr. Jessie Kabwira who is also a Member of Parliament (MP) for Salima North-west constituency has once again assured constituents of her loyalty to the party despite falling out of favour with the MCP’s leadership.
Kabwira’s assurance comes barely a month after the party demoted her in Malawi Parliament seating arrangement from position one to 79.

Some quarters of the society questioned the wisdom behind the move based on the influence Kabwira has to the party politics and on the ground.

Even members of the inner circle of the party have speculated that she has been stripped of her power to speak for MCP as she is seen as conniving with disgruntled district chairpersons who challenged Lazarus Chakwera’s leadership in court of violating the party’s constitution and nepotism.

Addressing thousands of supporters on Sunday, June 26, at Khombedza Primary School ground when she officially presided over the finals of the MK2 million Football Trophy, Dr. Kabwira who was in full MCP cloth regalia assured constituents of her loyalty to the party and that she remains MCP’ spokesperson.

Kabwira hinted that no matter how other MCP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) members might try to be on her way, she will stand for the party and remains intact describing the current political bickering as a minor internal matter which will be sorted out soon.

She further said the party could not do away with her if the mission to dislodge the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was to be achieved describing herself as a “Machine”.

“There’s so much political bickering in the party but that isn’t a threat to me as the situation will be normalized soon. I am into politics to serve my community and helping the party dislodge DPP which has made Malawian lives miserable.

“If the party want to win the battle of getting rid of DPP then am one of those people. I hold keys to that task as I am a Machine which doesn’t fear anything when fighting for the good course. This is the time to stand together as one family in the party,” said Kabwira franked by her Parents, fellow Lawmaker Felix Jumbe for Salima Central and a Mr. Chidzanja, MCP’ Lakeshore regional Chairperson.

The MCP’s Spokesperson emphasized the need for young people to be involved in various sporting activities to avoid risky behaviors suggesting that she will align any sporting or entertainment activity to developmental work including tree planting, helping vulnerable among others.
The end of the tournament, witnessed Bwanyamulenge FC taking the trophy with MK150,000 cash prize after beating Mtanda FC, two to one in a full match.
Other prizes to all competing 32 teams got jerseys, balls and cash. Kabwira who is now the Chairperson for Southern Africa Development Committee (SADC)’s Parliamentary Women Caucus therefore urged government and well-wishers to bail out her constituents from hunger which has hit hard the area due to dry spell.
“My constituents do not have enough food to take them into the next harvesting season. We need support especially on winter cropping as the area is full of rivers where irrigation can be intensified. Green Belt Initiative has even worsened people’s hunger as all fertile land was taken away from them.
“Not only that but also health facilities are in bad state where there are no drugs, medical equipment and food staffs. This is the reason we are urging government and other partners of the constituency to come forthwith for help,” said Kabwira.
