LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-UTM Party leader Dr Dalitso Kabambe has described Minister of Finance’s economic recovery plans dubbed as SOSISA as a mere political gimmick that has no basis to help Malawians better.
The SOSISA strategy which stand for Sosten (former Minister of Trade) Simplex (Minister of Finance, Chithyola himself) and Sam (Agriculture Minister, Sam Kawale has yielded nothing but causing more misery to Malawians than ever before.
Writing on his Facebook on Thursday, after President Lazarus Chakwera sacked Sosten Gwengwe as Minister of Trade while replacing him with Vitumbiko Mumba, Dr Kabambe said the strategy failed miserably.
The UTM leader who was the former Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) Governor Chithyola’ SOSISA economic recovery plan “It was clear that Malawians were being sold a fantasy”.
“From the moment Finance Minister Simplex Chithyola unveiled the so-called SOSISA economic recovery plan, it was clear that Malawians were being sold a fantasy. Market realities, expert analyses, and everyday struggles of Malawians all pointed to one thing—it was dead on arrival.
“Instead of offering real, actionable solutions, SOSISA turned out to be nothing more than political rhetoric, detached from the suffering of ordinary citizens. The kwacha has continued to depreciate, inflation remains out of control, and businesses are suffocating under economic mismanagement”, observes Dr Kabambe
The UTM leader adds, “Malawians don’t need empty slogans—we need a real plan for economic emancipation.
“It’s time for leadership that prioritizes the people, not cosmetic policies that collapse on impact. We deserve better”.
Dr Kabambe therefore appeals, “Join us on the 3rd Revolution: Economic Emancipation of Malawians…. From 16 September 2025, we will start building the new Malawi”.
Chithyola is expected to present the 2025/2026 Fiscal plan on Friday, February 28, in Malawi Parliament.
Expectations are high as to what extent the national budget will address high cost of living, shortages of forex that has paralysed business operations.
