LILONGWE (MaraviPost)—President Peter Mutharika’s inactiveness in responding to issues of national importance will this time likely lead to unnecessary deaths of many innocent Malawians as a major referral hospital in Central Malawi, Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) workers have down tools, demanding government to hike their salaries.
“Government has been giving us unclear and unreliable message when it comes to hiking our salaries and you know what, enough is enough.
“We hope they will understand this message we are conveying to them through our action,” said one worker on condition of strict anonymity.
Senior administrators at the hospital have asked Malawi Police to provide security at the institution shall the strike go full throttle.
The Peter Mutharika administration has been faced with strikes in a number of government institutions notably the judiciary so much so that the delivery of justice in the country has been greatly paralyzed leaving commentators wondering if this administration cares about human rights issues.
As the striking workers in different government institutions are demanding a pay hike which the administration is standing its ground not to effect any pay hike arguing the economy is in bad shape, the elites, who refused to hike the salaries of the junior workers hiked their own perks with enviable percentages and tricked the nation that they have deferred receiving their high perks until the economy stabilizes after a court of public opinion found them guilty of being selfish and traitors.
