Karate leader urges public to see sport as peaceful discipline

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Karate Federation Technical Director, Bahebe Pascal Dogani, has emphasized that karate should not be mistaken for a violent sport.

He said many people misunderstand its purpose because they associate martial arts with aggression.

Dogani, who also serves as the chief instructor for the Malawi Japan Karate Association (JKA), explained that karate promotes self defense, healthy living and discipline.

He added that the sport helps young people develop positive character in a modern world heavily influenced by the internet and digital distractions.

He noted that karate teaches focus, respect, and responsibility values that are essential for guiding young Malawians as they grow.

According to him, the sport shapes both the body and the mind.

The remarks were made today during a karate tournament held at Chaminade Marianist Secondary School in Lilongwe.

The competition was organized to identify, encourage and elevate emerging youth talent in the sport.

Dogani said such tournaments play a crucial role in grooming future champions and keeping young people engaged in productive activities.

He encouraged more schools and communities to embrace karate.

Several junior athletes showcased impressive skill and discipline throughout the event.

The performances reflected the training and commitment invested by their coaches.

Notable young winners included Patience Valeta and Isaac Kaunda from Chaminade Marianist, who both walked away with gold medals in the junior category.

She added that karate motivates her to work hard both in training and in school.

Kaunda also highlighted personal growth, explaining that karate has improved his behavior and boosted his confidence.

He said he hopes to compete at higher levels in the future.

In the senior categories, the competition was equally intense and exciting, drawing admiration from spectators and fellow athletes.
