Civil Society Organizations that deals with issues of child rights in Karonga have disclosed their plan of holding a massive protest against the increase cases of defilement in the district.

Confirming to Maravi Post, Malawi Scout District Commissioner Aaron Mwenelupembe said the this is to show their anger towards the development.
Mwenelupembe said the protest will be conducted across the district together with the primary and secondary school learners.
“We are now tired with the issues of defilement in the district as CSOs, so to express our anger we have organized a massive protest,” said Mwenelupembe.
According to him, the most worrying thing is that people who are doing the malpractice are not facing the law because of their political and financial status.
“When a politician or business person committs the crime, they conceal it by bribing the victim’s parents or law enforcers,” he disclosed.
Mwenelupembe said this affect the mind as well as education of the victim.
Karonga Women’s Forum executive director Miriam Ikwangwa concurred with Mwenelupembe saying “we believe that the protest will send a big signal that enough is enough.”
The Karonga magistrate court has also confirmed about the increase in cases of defilement.
The court said in the year 2016 only, it handled 36 such cases a development which was described as worrisome.
Meanwhile, the CSOs said they will later communicate to the media about the whole program.
