KARONGA-(MaraviPost)-Karonga United produced a stunning final day performance to down Dwangwa United 2-0 and in the process relegate their opponents from the TNM Super league back to the Chipiku premier league.

The match played in front of a large partisan home crowd at the karonga stadium saw the hosts put on their best home display of the season in outclassing the visitors with Clement Nyondo helping himself to a brace.

Needing to win the match to preserve their league status after being held by Savenda Chitipa United who due to Karonga’s win have escaped the chop themselves, the away side simply had no answers for the hosts with the 2-0 score line flattering the Nkhotakhota based side.

In a lively first half the hosts should have been out of sight but chance after chance went begging with Clement Nyondo and Khumbo Msowoya all being guilty of profligacy in front of goal.

In the second half the crocodiles of Karonga began where they left off exerting pressure on the visitors with their one touch football.

In the 55th minute the hosts finally broke the deadlock through the impressive Nyondo who coolly finished off a flowing team move to send the expectant home crowd wild.

Despite needing to go all out for the attack Dwangwa continued to struggle to get into the match with their in-form striker Chifunilo Mpingangila left to feed off scraps.

With 15 minutes to go karonga sealed the victory curtesy of Clement Nyondo’s brace as he tapped in the ball into the net after a counter attack.

In a post-match interview Dwangwa United coach Ladwell Mbetewa, said his team were beaten before the match as the officiation favoured the hosts.

“We have accepted our fate that we have been relegated but yet again we were let down by the officiation in the match it is clear that they were biased again like yesterday against chitipa,” frustrated Mbetewa said.

However, Karonga United assistant coach Wilberforce Longwe, hailed his boy’s performance and display in the win.

“I thought we were fantastic today from the defence to the attack and the 2-0 score line does not reflect our dominance in the match as we should have won by more than the 2-nil score line,” he explained.

Having wind up their league season Karonga currently sit 9th on the log table with 37 points from 30 matches 2 points clear of Tigers FC who have a game remaining to finish their season while Dwangwa have finished in 14th place with 30 points from their 30 games.
