As efforts to fight the spread of Coronavirus intensifies in Kasungu, Plan International has put in about MK10 million to support the district.

The organisation which is represented in the district?s Public Health Emergency Management Committee (PHEMC) is currently supporting the district Covid-19 prevention drive in trainings, awareness and also surveillance of suspected cases.

In an interview with Plan International Kasungu Area Manager Chris Katutu said the organisation has sourced the funds and will continue sourcing more so that the efforts by the district are supported.

Katutu said they have supported activities that the district has put in place to curb the spread of Coronavirus.

?We are supporting PHEMC meetings so that the committee is able to meet regularly; we are also supporting trainings of health workers and orienting Area Development Committees and church leaders,

?We are also into awareness and we have distributed 4000 posters to the District Health Office so that each and every angle of the district is reached with the messages about Covid-19,? said Katutu.

The organisation is also supporting the district hospital on surveillance of those that have just come in the country.

Meanwhile the district has put in place various measures to make sure that the virus is not spread in the district and Director of Health and Social Services Dr Emmanuel Golombe said several structures are now active.

?We have a number of activities put in place so that the disease is not spread and currently there are structures like PHEMC, District Rapid Response Team (DRRT) and District Civil Protection Committee (DCPC) that are driving the activities on Covid-19 prevention activities,? said Dr Golombe.

The district has also intensified surveillance and so far 22 people have and are being monitored and followed up.
