LILONGWE (MaraviPost)-As one way of conserving the environment, the Vice president Saulos Chilima on March 15, 2022 launched Limestone Calcined Clay Cement project (LC3) aims at improving the construction sector.
With the launch theme titled “Building a low carbon future together” aims at mitigating gas emission.
Chilima said the LC3 project will help the curbing of cement prices to help the country to develop in the construction project.
He said the project will align with the countries development goals reforms .
The Veep said the country is failing to develop as cement prices are still high refusing the rural masses to access it in large numbers.
He said the project will create job creation as well as increasing level of building materials in the infrastructure sector.
Presenting the symbolic sample of LC3, Chief Technical Officer for Tara Company, Soumen Maity said LC3 project will bring together cement manufactures .
Maity said the project brings good platform for the private sector and government come together in achieving the nation’s developmental goals.
Deputy Head of Cooperation Germany Embassy,Knut Gummet vows to continue strengthen the private sector as they have pumped in MK2.5 billion towards the project.
The project is championed by Public Partnership for the Promotion of an Environmentally Friendly Building Material Sector in Malawi (PEFCoM).
Its implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in association with TARA .
Minister of Mining, Albert Mbawala,Minister of Trade industry, Mark Katsonga and Minister of Transport, Jacob Hara were in attendance.
