Lazarus Chakwera appears to be reneging on the 1 Million Jobs Promise, says political science analyst

MCP president Mr Lazarus Chakwera during the campaign period promised Young people in the country that if voted into power within first six months, he will come up with government programs that will create 1 million jobs for young people in this nation.

However, just one week in government Mr Chakwera has told the same young people to forget about the government creating jobs for them. He told the young people to create jobs for themselves instead of looking up to his government to create jobs for them.

Speaking at this year’s Independence celebrations in Lilongwe Chakwera said young people should stop being job seekers and start creating jobs.

” When we promised to create 1 million Jobs we did not just mean that we will create programs to employ you but to challenge you to stop seeing yourself as a job seeker and start seeing yourself as a job creator”, explained Chakwera.

Political Science Lecturer at Catholic University in Chiradzulu Professor Bright Kawinga has described the statement by Mr Chakwera as a broken promise.

Kawinga said that young people in the country were looking forward to this government that it will create jobs for them, it is unfortunate that Chakwera is twisting the statements now.

“The young people’s trust on Chakwera has been betrayed, this will have a negative impact on his government” Kawinga added.

On 23 June, Malawian went for Fresh Presidential Elections after the 2019 results were nullified by constitutional Court on 2 February this year.
