LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has lifted the suspension on issuance of radio frequency licenses in the FM band (87.5-108 MHz).

Last year, MACRA suspended the issuance of radio frequency licences in the FM Band to allow for re-planning of the band which had become congested and could not accommodate additional radio stations.

According to the statement made available to Maravi Post the director general Godfrey Itaye said that this new plan for the band has been developed and MACRA is ready to implement it.

Some of the issues to be involved in the implementation of the plan include broadcasters that will be asked to switch off their transmitters in identified sites.

While some broadcasters will be re-assigned new frequencies and others be required to reduce transmitting power to avoid interference.

Finally MACRA has set up a task force for implementation and broadcasters are members of the taskforce to ensure transparency.

Broadcasters will therefore be required to cooperate with the task force to ensure smooth implementation of the plan.
