Madonna can be Malawi’s roving Ambassador?

Madonna returned to Malawi last month for the first time since her furious row with the country’s former president Joyce Banda 18 months ago.

Mrs. Joyce Banda attacked the pop star for being ‘arrogant’ and bizarrely accused her of being less well-mannered than footballers Gary Neville or Rio Ferdinand ‘despite their equally dazzling stature’.

Former Malawi President Joyce Banda had stripped Madonna of her VIP status last year by forcing the singer to check into her private jet as an ordinary passenger.

Madonna had a good working relationship with Bingu WA Mutharika brother to current President Peter Mutharika.

New President Peter Mutharika restored the singer’s VIP status. The president’s spokesman said the country appreciates Madonna’s charity work.

Madonna helps fund a number of charities — including orphanages, schools and medical facilities — in Malawi.

Madonna definitely for some unknown reasons has chosen to help Malawi. It is imperative on us and the government that we take advantage of this opportunity and encourage her to do more.

Malawi government should convince the pop star to act as our ambassador promoting investments and tourism. One can tell from the extensive media attention she garnered while in Malawi that the lady can be an asset to the Malawi Government.

Madonna in some capitals has more access to government leaders and is better suited to making Malawi’s case whatever that case might be.
