LILONGWE (Maravi Post)–There is division between the Director of the Malawi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Lucas Kondowe and his Deputy Renex Matemba over office issues. The two have shown this when they contradicted each other on how the case involving Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) was handled last week.

While Kondowe said his deputy took part in advising the prosecution team on how to handle the case, Matemba denied the report.

“I did not take part in advising the case of MERA as reported by Kondowe. In fact it is Mike Kalonga who is handling that case so it is a total lie,” said Matemba.

“Our working relationship is just good that is the only thing I can tell you. But on the report that I was among the legal adviser to the MERA case he was lying,” he added.

According to Matemba his office as the deputy director of the ACB does not play such role but the legal and prosecution department.

In his response, Kondowe described Matemba as somebody who failed to understand things fast.

“You know there are some people who fail to understand fast, I don’t know what he is denying. But any way, my office and his are in good relationship,” argued Kondowe.

ACB is restricting MERA to give a K6.8 billion contract to Terrastone Limited to construct MERA office complex of which the Lilongwe magistrate court refused.

Recently, Matemba shocked Malawians when he resigned from prosecuting cash gate case involving former President Bakili Muluzi without convincing reasons.

It is also believed that politicians are interfering with the anti-graft busting body, a development that has led to the resignation of 13 employees recently.
