BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi’s Attorney General Chikosa Silungwe has stopped enforcement of new preventive measures of Covid-19 that the Presidential Taskforce on the pandemic recently announced.
This was revealed in a letter that the AG wrote to the presidential Taskforce chairperson issued on Monday 13 July, 2020.
According to Silungwe, the High Court in Lilongwe suspended the enforcement of the measures through the judicial review of lockdown case and such measures can only operate once the suspension is lifted.
The AG has therefore asked the presidential Taskforce chairperson to reverse his decision to implement the rules in a press statement.
The legal advisor to government has also said he is handling the matter with the utmost urgency considering the increasing number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
As of July 13, 2020 Malawi had 2430 Covid-19 cases with 39 deaths.
