Group village headman Chawinga in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Kilipula in Karonga has sold the public land together with infrastructures to a private business person Maravi Post has established.According to the community who spoke to this reporter in a random interview, the community built the CBO as well as a multipurpose hall using their own resources in order to help them in different ways.

Unfortunately, Chawinga secretly sold the place and the infrastructures to Mr. Mhango who changed it to private secondary school.

“As the community, together with our chief (Chawinga) we agreed to built the CBO and the hall,” said our source.

“The CBO was helping us in different things, for instance, used as under five clinic, nursery in mentioning a few while people who need to have festivals, marriage ceremonies here in our village they were booking our hall,” they added.

They said “So at first, Mhango was renting his school in these buildings after he approached us but when we asked him to leave our place he denied claiming Chawinga sold him the place.”

According to them “the hall was source of money for us and selling it is killing us as the community.”

Despite the community demand for their place and infrastructures, Chawinga denied to do so saying “the land is now in the hands of Mhango.”

Councilor for the area Mwakafwisha also confirmed the development to Maravi Post while blaming the chief for the development.

Meanwhile, TA Kilipula said it is too early to conclude the matter saying there’s needed to consult all side.
