LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s Consumer Association of Malawi (CAMA) has asked President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government to withdraw unrealistic political campaign promises arguing that are
unachievable and mere dreams that cannot be implemented.

In a statement made available to The Maravi Post over the weekend,CAMA Execitive Director,John Kapito said Malawian consumers can no longer afford to pay any further taxes in the name of being provided free social services.

Kapito observes that Tonse promises unrealistic given the current economic situation that Malawi finds itself into

He said government is currently broke and bleeding with huge debts and its Consumers are heavily choked with higher taxes and levies which have contributed to the high cost of living ever experienced by Malawians.

CAMA boss added that Chakwera’s Tonse administration is currently struggling to pay for the most basic essential services and goods that Malawians are demanding.

“Despite the economy being heavily battered by the Covid-19 pandemic and making it even harder for Government to implement any social.

He observed further that Tonse government is failing to implement the subsidized Agriculture Input Program (AIP), upgrade and improve the Health and Education sectors due to lack of resources and giving free electricity connections was supposed to be a priority for the struggling Malawians at the moment.

“This program called Free Electricity Connection is a fact that government cannot implement a free program without subjecting the very same consumers to pay high taxes,” said Kapito

He therefore appealed Malawians to reject any politically motivated projects that are poorly planned with no resource
