
MWANZA-(MaraviPost)—The Malawi court in the boarder and Southern district of Mwanza on Wednesday sentenced a 25-year old man to six years in jail for burglary and theft offenses.Mwanza Police Station Spokesperson Edwin Kaunda told The Maravi Post that the convict Julius Chibowa committed the crime on the wee hours of March 19, this year at Eliya village in the district.
The Police Publicist Kaunda said the convict Chibowa broke into the house of Misheck Chiona and stole one plasma screen valued at K150, 000.00.
“This occurred while Chiona was in the bedroom sleeping. The victim heard dogs barking outside and when woke up he discovered that his plasma screen at the living room was gone.
Thereafter, Chiona reported the matter to Mwanza Police and a man hunt was launched which led to the arrest of Julius on April 21, 2016.
“Julius was taken to Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court on April 25, where he pleaded not guilty to charges of Burglary and Theft.
After the state prosecutor Sub/Inspector Jane Juma successfully paraded three witnesses against the convict, the court found him guilty of burglary and theft and sentenced him to six years in jail with hard labor,” said Kaunda.
Chibowa hails from Magaleta village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mlauli in Neno district.
