The First Grade Magistrate (FGM) in the southern district of Mwanza on Tuesday, March 16, sentenced a 19 year-old man to six years in jail with hard labour for being found guilty of defiling a four year-old girl at Eliya village.
Mwanza Police Station Public Relations Officer, Edwin Kaunda confirmed The Maravi Post Tuesday, evening the conviction of Julio Yosefe who committed the offense on January 19, 2016 when mother left girl with the convict.
The court heard that on this fateful day the convict who was employed by the mother of the girl as a house boy and has been with the family for a year, the mother of the girl went to Mwanza District hospital leaving her daughter with Julio. While she was there the convict took the victim to his bed room and defiled her and when the mother came the girl informed her that she had sex with Julio.
“The mother took the girl to Mwanza Police where she was referred to Mwanza District Hospital and medical examinations showed that the girl was really defiled. Julio was arrested on the same day and on the January 20, 2016 appeared before Mwanza FGM Court where he pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement. Four witnesses were paraded and after full trial Julio was found guilty of the charge.
During mitigation Julio asked the court to be lenient with him because he is young and saying that it was Satan who made him to do the act but His worship Ranwell Mangazi said that people like him deserves no leniency because what he did to the girl will have a long time effect on the girl and he proceeded in giving him the above jail term”, explains Police Publicist Kaunda.
Julio Yosefe hails from Msakambewa Village Traditional Authority (T.A) Kanduku in the southern district of Mwanza.
