The Malawi court in the southern district of Mwanza has on Friday, February 12 sent the 21 year-old man to five years and nine months in jail for burglary and theft offenses respectively.
Mwanza Police Station Public Relations Officer Edwin Kaunda confirmed to the Maravi Post on Saturday, February 13, the sentencing of Luwis Driano for being found guilty of the offenses.
According Mwanza Police Publicist Kaunda, the court head that Driano committed the offenses in December 31, 2015 around 23:00 hours at Mchotseni village where he broke into the house of Brian Kaliyande then stole various households’ items worthy MK55, 000.
“Luwis was on the run after committing the offence whom was arrested later on the February 9, 2016 and when he appeared before Mwanza First Grade Magistrate court the convict pleaded guilty to charges of burglary and theft for five years and nine months in jail respectively.
“Although during mitigation he begged for leniency, His worship Ranwell Mangazi convicted Luwis to five years and nine months in jail with hard labour saying he didn’t deserve mercy bearing in mind that the offense committed was felony which needed to be given the maximum sentence to deter those might wish to committee the same offense”, explained Publicist Kaunda.
Luwis Driano hails from Lupiya village, Traditional Authority (TA) Kanduku in the southern district of Mwanza.
