BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The leadership of two government bodies, Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC) and Mpemba Staff Development Institute (SDI) that were eroded in land ownership dispute have commended Deputy Minister of Lands Abida Mia for her swift response in resolving their dispute.
Both SDI acting Director Peter Muthete and MHC acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jordan Chipatala have expressed satisfaction over the Deputy Minister’s approach to their disagreement, which has since been amicably resolved.
In an interview after an official engagement with the Deputy Minister, Muthete said, without Mia’s intervention, the matter would not have been quickly resolved.
Likewise, on behalf of MHC, Jordan Chipatala said the Deputy Minister has demonstrated that with commitment and strong will, it is possible to solve serious matters within a short period of time.
The bone of contention in the land dispute was when MHC demarcated about five hecters of public land inside SDI campus with the aim of selling it to private developers.
SDI reported the matter to Mia who responded immediately, stopping the process and subsequently summoned the two agencies to a round-table discussion, during which she gave them a 14 day ultimatum to resolve the matter.
