KARONGA(MaraviPost): The Deputy Minister of Defense Vincent Ghambi who is also the lawmaker for Karonga north rescued himself from angry members of his own constituency after they started stoning him because he failed to honor his pledge of cash.

Vincent Ghambi: stoned in Karonga for failing to pay people money he pledged

Ghambi  organized a MK2.5 million football trophy in his area last year which ended last week.

The deputy minister had however no money to give the organizing committee for transporting the invited guests. Among such invited guests were Traditional Authority Kilupula, Democratic Progressive Party members and journalists. The money he had were only enough for the winning teams.

After realizing that his money bag was empty and that there were more people to be paid, Ghambi immediately jumped into his ministerial vehicle in a soldierly style and ordered his driver to immediately start-off closing the door of the car while the car was already in motion.

Some of the angry people and party supporters started shouting at him while others threw stones.

“We don’t want to see you or your vehicle around here,” said some of the concerned members.

“You organized the football trophy while knew you are bankrupt. We know you spend your money on women,” they added.

Some senior party members present vowed to dethrone the minister from his position as the deputy treasurer for the party and ask President Peter Mutharika to fire him on his ministerial position saying “the behavior he has shown is bad to the party as well as the nation.”

The stranded groups were saved by one of the DPP member Mungasulwa Mwambande who is also well known business tycoon in the district.

“I was just called by the group telling me that they are stranded and as a DPP member as well as a citizen of the district I thought of just helping them,” said Mwambande.

This is not the first time Ghambi has done this. Just recently he deserted a group of his supporters after attending the Ngonde cultural ceremony but were again bailed out by Mwambande.
