MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-An education expert has sternly warned students and other education stakeholders to check out riots and protests in both secondary schools and colleges; which result in closure of the institutions, arguing that the tendency has the potential to undermine standards of education in the country.
Speaking at the weekend, Limbani Nsapato, said all students in schools have an obligation to remember that success in education goes hand in glove with morality.
Nsapato further reminded other education stakehlders, such as teachers, that closure of schools as a way of disciplining students is; in a way, a recipe for destruction of education standards as the students who are sent home lose concentration and so, forget it all.
Lately, there has been a spate of violent protests in schools which have led to closure of the same and suspension of students.
On 2nd November, 2019, Mzuzu University suspended fourteen students for allegedly conducting illegal demos at the campus.
In the past three months alone, Blantyre Secondary School, Thyolo Secondary School, Lunzu Secondary School and Rumphi Secondary School have been closed down and students were sent home.
