Malawi Election case: full trial to end October

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-During the private chamber meeting that started at exactly 12:12pm at Constitution Court today, 5 Judges disclosed to all Lawyers representing both concerned parties (Petitioner and Respondents) that Court has resolved to end full trial hearing in the ongoing presidential case before 18 October 2019.

Judges also said that they expects to give out their final ruling on the matter before 25 October 2019

During the meeting the Attorney General of Malawi, Kaphare surprised 5 Judges as he was asking for forgiveness on behalf of Mr Diverson Makweta for giving Court a false statement regarding to the wareabout of Presidential documents and sheets used on last ended Presidential Elections

Kaphare asked Court not to arrest Mr Makwete but give him a lenient punishment alleging that he was not fully aware about the wereabouts of documents during the time he was presenting sworn statements

In reaction to Attorney Kaphare’s request Judges said Mr Makwete must face the Law

During the meeting MCP Lawyers announced that it has withdrew 3 witnesses from its sworn statements

The Court could not make any objection on MCP moves

DPP lawyers also announced that it has withdraw some witnesses from its sworn statement however the final list will be made available on Wednesday before 11am

Meanwhile, the court has finalised cross-examination and re-examining MCP leader Lazarus Chakwera.

The court resumes Tuesday, October 1.
