LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Foreign Affairs Minister Kondwani Nankhumwa on Wednesday, April 14, 2020 lost his personal bodyguard in a fatal road accident at Lumbadzi in Dowa district.
Sapulain Chitonde Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) Police Public Relations Officer told The Maravi Post that the deceased aged 43 was involved in a car accident and died after a car which he was driving collided with a truck when he was overtaking another car at Lumbadzi Trading Centre.
Chitonde said the late Yalu who was in the company of his wife Inness and their son, was driving a motor vehicle registration number NA 1114 from Dowa turn off direction towards Lumbadzi trading center.
“Soon before arriving at Mkukula Primary School he decided to overtake a motor vehicle registration number MJ 6049 Scania truck and in the process he hit the front offside Tyre of the truck and swerved to extremely offside of the road where he overturned several times before resting.
“Due to the impact S / Insp Ellias Yalu sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Lumbadzi Health Center. His wife Innes sustained a deep cut on her right lower leg with several bruises while their son escaped unhurt,” says Chitonde.
The Malawi Police at Lumbadzi are therefore reminding motorists to be mindful whenever driving with their cars to avoid such incidents.
Burial of the late Yalu will take place at his home village Chibuli at in Traditional Authority ( T.A ) Ndamela in Nsanje district.
