BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson Justice Chifundo Kachale on polling day appealed to the citizenry to refrain from taking the laws into their hands over election disagreements.
Kachale was addressing the news conference at the National’s Main Tally Centre, College of Medicine in the commercial city of Blantyre.
Kachale observed that people risk creating an environment of chaos and lawlessness if they continue with such behaviors’.
He has since urged the public to report suspicious activities to legitimate law enforcement agencies.
Kachale’s remarks come amid reports of attacks on Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) monitors in the central and eastern regions.
The MEC Chairperson therefore asked the general public to report suspicious activities to legitimate law enforcement agencies for proper actions and desist from taking the law into their own hands when dealing with such cases.
He however urged employers to ensure that their employees’ right to vote is upheld as provided for in the law by giving them the opportunity to go and cast their votes.
