Malawi governing DPP removes Veep Ansah from party’s leadership structure

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has constructively removed Vice President Jane Ansah from the party’s leadership structure following an emergency leadership meeting held in Blantyre on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

The meeting, held at the Golden Peacock Hotel brought together senior party leaders, members of the National Governing Council (NGC) and other officials to deliberate on the party’s unity, discipline, internal cohesion, strategic direction and overall stability.

Addressing party delegates, DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito, hinted that after President Peter Mutharika, powers goes to regional vice presidents down to areas not any other round.

This sentiments clearly show that the party leadership does not recognise Ansah in DPP structure.

Mukhito argues that the party’s succession plan is based on established structures and principles of collective responsibility.

The DPP has since urged its members and supporters to remain calm, disciplined and united while awaiting further communication through the appropriate party structures.

The party maintained that it remains focused, united and committed to moving forward.
