LILONGWE Maravipost: The Government of Malawi, through the Presidential Delivery Unit and the Ministry of Mining, has commenced high-level consultations with various stakeholders to address challenges hindering progress in the mining industry.
Speaking at the opening of the discussions held at the Bingu International Conference Center in Lilongwe, Minister of Mining, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, emphasized the need for Malawi to shift from merely talking about its mining potential to taking tangible action.
“Malawi has gold and graphite deposits in districts such as Lilongwe and Dowa, yet the country continues to gain very little from these resources. We talk a lot, but we don’t act enough. We want to move beyond good English and start seeing real money transforming people’s lives,” said Ng’oma.
Vice President Michael Usi, who officially opened the event, also stressed that it is time to move beyond endless meetings that yield no results and begin implementing practical solutions.
Meanwhile, Michael da Costa, Head of Operations at Lotus Limited—a company involved in uranium exploration in Malawi—expressed optimism about the future of the country’s mining sector. He said collaborative efforts between the government and private sector players could significantly contribute to national economic growth.
The government’s engagement with stakeholders signals a renewed commitment to turning Malawi’s rich mineral resources into real economic benefits for its people.
