LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)–Malawi has made significant strides in its digital migration efforts, with a number of government departments and agencies now connected to internet services.
Co-chair for Digital Migration, Paulos Nyirenda, announced this development on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, in Lilongwe on the sidelines of the week long, Open Government Partnership (OGP) meeting.
Nyirenda highlighted that Malawians will soon be able to access national IDs and other essential government services online.
He explained that a comprehensive work plan has been developed to connect various institutions, including schools, markets, and airports, free of charge under the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA).
He emphasized the need for collaboration among all stakeholders, including civil society, to ensure transparency and accountability in the digital migration process.
“The adoption of various ICT programs shows that the government is taking the lead in digital platforms such as the land management platform,” Nyirenda added.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Information and Digitisation.
Chizaso Nyirongo, from the Open Government Partnership (OGP) Secretariat, noted that the right to information can reform and transform both government and civil society, enhancing their functions in thematic areas.
In her closing remarks, Deputy Secretary to the President, Janet Banda, acknowledged that the OGP week has identified gaps in contract offers.
She stated that the meeting has strengthened the government’s efforts in promoting good governance
