The Embassy of Egypt in Lilongwe issued a statement with remarks made by H.E. Maher El-Adawy, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Malawi on the occasion of the participation of Malawi in the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) that took place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt from 13-15 March 2015:
1. Egypt was very happy for the participation of Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha, MP Minister of Industry and Trade in the EEDC, representing H.E. Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi.
The Minister, in Egypt, expressed his appreciation for the continuous support of Egypt to the people of Malawi since independence in 1964, not only in trade and investment, but in all fields of development confirming that there is literally no sector in Malawi which has not benefited from the bilateral relations with Egypt especially in the areas of health, agriculture, water & irrigation, fisheries, nursing, security, information, as well as diplomacy and international relations.
2. Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha met on the sideline of the conference with many leaders including, from Egypt, President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi as well as Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, and Minister of Trade, Industry and Small and Medium Enterprises, Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour.
In addition to Egyptian officials the Minister also met with many investors from all over the world participating in the conference including engineer Nabil Abdel-Aziz, CEO of Egypt’s Eastern Company which is planning to build two factories in Malawi in the next months in processing tobacco and cigarettes.
3. The conference was a good opportunity for Malawi to inform and invite all investors interested in Africa to participate in the Malawi Investment Forum which will take place in Lilongwe in the next few weeks.
4. Egypt is currently on the right track after successful free and fair Presidential elections last year. This positive environment led to the success of the EEDC conference with many pledges as well as the announcement of many mega projects in the fields of energy, maritime and construction especially the introduction of the new capital of Egypt.
5. The Embassy takes this opportunity to thank H.E. Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi for sending Honourable Joseph Mwanamvekha MP to represent him at this important conference and for fostering good and strong bilateral relations between Malawi and Egypt.
The participation of Malawi in EEDC was another fruitful step in the everlasting solid partnership between the two countries
