BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Dr. Ben Phiri on Monday presided over a week long working session on rebranding for local authorities performance improvement.
This is part of the Minister’s quest to make local councils are living up to their billing of serving the people efficiently and effectively.
At the end of day, the District Commissioners are expected to sign an agreement with the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) pledging their commitment to fighting corruption. Also signing an undertaking will be ministry and council officials.
Some of notable high profile officials attending the conference are Minister of Finance Joseph Mwanamvekha, ACB Rayneck Matamba, Health Secretary Dan Namarika, OPC Chief Director Seodi White.
The donor community is being represented by US Ambassador, Chair for Development partners on sector working group Michael Roscitt.
This is the first time in history of Malawi for a Minister to initiate an interaction with local councils of such magnitude.
