MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-There was ugly scenes on Thursday, April 16, 2020 morning when Mzuzu vendors went on rampage against Malawi President Peter Mutharika’s announcement of COVID-19 lockdown.

The lockdown which has been announced without sedatives to poor is slated for April 18 to May 9, 2020.

The lockdown aimes at containing the virus across the country.

But Mzuzu residents say no to the lockdown arguing that its non starter without any social services provided.

Most Vendors depend on hand to mouth for their survival and that the lockdown will not be a solution to them unless government offers to provide food for them all.

Due to the anger, these vendors forced the temporary close down of Shoprite and Sana shops.

Since the announcement was made, there have been mixed reactions to it, and many Malawians are against the lockdown decision.

As of April 15, 2020, Malawi had 16 cases of Covid-19 with two deaths.
