LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Minister of of Forestry and Natural Resources Nancy Tembo on Friday afternoon, July 31, 2020 expressed sadness over insubordination displayed by Chinese company (Qingdao recycling limited) for continuing manufacturing thin plastic despite the ban.
The minister observed that the company whose premises are at 6 miles in the capital Lilongwe was closed around March this year, 2020 for contravening the Environmental Management Act (2017), Plastics Regulations (2015) is still producing the banned thin plastics.
Tembo could not afford to sleep over the issue but to reassure Malawians that the Tonse Government is determined to end the plastic menace in Malawi.
She says efforts will be made to ensure the case is expedited.
This follows the ministry’s official invading the company’s premises that eventually forced two company’s officials taken to Lilongwe Area 3 police station for questioning.
The two officials including Xu Wezqi aged 27 and Mazi Kang, 24 were picked that the company’s owner whereabouts were not known.
Meanwhile, the March 2020 case is still in court and this means that a charge sheet will be amended to include the new offences.
The ban was instituted in 2015 but has been facing resistance mainly from manufacturers who have been fighting through the courts
