Kasungu for Tonse alliance

KASUNGU-(MaraviPost)-The running mate for Tonse alliance who is also the president of UTM and the state vice president Dr. Saulos Chilimas on Saturday, May 16, 2020 told Malawians that insightful leadership needs to be in place for meaningful development.

Chilima therefore urged the nation to support the Tonse alliance in the forthcoming election

He was speaking in Kasungu during a political rally at the boma’s community ground.

Chilima told the gathering that for the sake of unity and prosperity of all Malawians he, his party and the parties in the Tonse alliance endorsed Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to lead, and that the alliance will win the July 2 fresh presidential election.

The UTM leader who had whistle stop rallies in some areas of Dowa, Ntchisi and Kasungu assured the crowd that Tonse alliance under Dr. Chakwera will bring universal fertilizer subsidy at an affordable price of not higher than K4,500 per bag.

He said Malawi needs visionary leaders who can take the country to a higher level in development. Dr. Chilima further said for Malawians to enjoy their freedom, taxes on many products need to be reduced citing fuel as one such product and has since challenged that he will shortly spell out the fuel deal that others want to do in order to find money for the campaign.

On agriculture, the Tonse alliance runningmate said the sector needs to be revisited so that farmers do benefit out of their sweat.

On leadership, Dr. Chilima told the gathering that there will be only one leader at a time and that this time is for Dr. Chakwera to lead this country.

He has also urged the Tonse alliance supporters to desist from any kind of violence and has since challenged the Tonse alliance opponents to stop violence and meet the rivals on ground.

The Malawi VP in his speech also thanked the first president of Malawi Dr. Kamuzu Banda for genteelly accepting the outcome of 1994 general election.

Before he spoke, some officials from Tonse alliance made their speeches and these were the Mayor for Kasungu municipality Socret Jere, MP for Kasungu Central Hon. Kandodo, Commander in chief for CFT comrade Mtambo, first deputy speaker of national assembly Hon. Kazombo and Secretary General for UTM Hon. Kaliati.

Dr. Chakwera who was supposed to address the rally alongside Dr. Chilima did not attend as he was attending the burial of his mother-in-law in Rumphi alongside other leaders like Dr. Joyce Banda, Khumbo Kachali and Harry Mkandawire.

Today’s Tonse alliance rallies covered parts of Dowa, Mchinji, Ntchisi and Kasungu districts.

Similar rallies were addressed in Blantyre and were led by MCP’ first vice president Sidik Mia.

On Sunday, May 17, the alliance leaders will address another rally at Likuni Boys ground in the capital Lilongwe.
