LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Members of Parliament (MPs) on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, unanimously approved Thomas Makiwa as the new Auditor General (AG).
This follows President Lazarus Chakwera’s Makiwa appointment.
MPs confirmed Makwiwa under Section 184(3) of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi and Section 5 of the Public Audit Act.
Moving the motion, Finance Minister, Sosten Gwengwe said the country had stayed over five years without AG position which paralysed the office’s decisions.
In his remarks, the Leader of the house , Chimwendo Banda said the confirmation of the AG position will speed up works that were waiting for his approval.
The August house did not take time to debate on his confirmation after his background shows that he came from Balaka which impresses the opposition side and allows the leader of the house to move a confirmation motion.
