LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Members of Parliament (MPs) on Thursday, July 28, 2022 passed a corruption practices amendment bill which mandates Anti Corruption Bureau office (ACB) to prosecute any corruption case without seeking consent from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Likoma Island legislator Ashems Songwe who moved the motion, said the passing of the bill will help ACB to work on outstanding cases which were stopped by the powers of the DPP.
Songwe said ACB will be working independently with the empowerment of the bill and they believe that cases of corruption will speed up.
On his part ,Government Chief Whip,Jacob Hara said the passing of the bill will help government’s Anti corruption efforts
On his part leader of UDF in the house, Nedson Phoya said the bill will help the office of DPP and ACB to do their job diligently.
This means if President Lazarus Chakwera assents the bill into law ACB will be able to prosecute anyone without DPP approval.
