LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Parliament on Thursday, March 30, 2023 passed MK3.7 trillion for 2023-2024 financial year.
The budget was scrutinized by the Cluster committees for 18 days.
The budget which went through cluster committees and committee of supply for scrunity on the allocations has been reduced with MK100 billion.
Speaking in Parliament, Minister of finance Sosten Gwengwe said that the budget was not easy with the cyclone Freddy impact as many legislators have been in somber mood due to the lost of loved ones, friends and families.
Gwengwe said more resources in the budget have been channelled to maintainance with the aim of rebuilding roads and bridges which were washed away by cylone Freddy.
According to Gwengwe MK45 billion has been channelled to Roads authority
On her part , Chairperson for Budget and finance ,Gladys Ganda said the budget was fair interms of discussion but there is need to consider more funds to the ministry of water and sanitation amidst cholera outbreak.
