Malawi Police claim accused Albino abductor has died when he jumped from their moving car

A 19 year Joseph Andiwochi who was arrested by Machinga Police Thursday last week has committed suicide by jumping from a moving police vehicle on his way to Zomba

Tuesday morning where he was expected to appear before court to answer abduction charges.

Machinga Police has confirmed the claim of suicide which took place near Mandevu Farms, a kilometer from Machinga Boma.

Machinga Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gideon Nahumu said, Andiwochi was being transported to Zomba Senior Resident Magistrates Court where he was expected to enter plea in an abduction case.

The suspect jumped from a moving police Land Cruiser in the company of armed police officers who escorted him.

According to Machinga Police, Andiwochi and two other accomplices abducted a two year old albino girl at Muluku village, Sub Chief Mchinguza in the district.

The abducted girl was in the company of her ten year old sister who is also an albino when their mother was away.

The ten year old sister raised an alarm that compelled villages to chase the abductors until Andiwochi was apprehended while his accomplices Kamanga Likhutu and Sinoya Likhutu fled and are still at large.

The baby girl was dumped in a bush and was recovered and handed back to her mother.

Postmortem at Machinga District Hospital indicated that Andiwochi died due to severe head injuries. Andiwochi’s body is in the mortuary at Machinga District Hospital.

More than 13 people have been arrested in Machinga in connection with albino abduction, exhuming of graves and possession of human bones.
