His Lilongwe, February 19: Lilongwe Police has arrested three men suspected to have been part of the gang that invaded and robbed Minister of Energy and Mining Resources, Atupele Muluzi’s Area 9 residence in the Capital City.
The three were caught and arrested in what is termed a raid, which had followed a series of intensive investigations according to Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Dandaula who confirmed the arrests.
“We have also retrieved three laptops, and an IPhone along with seven laptop bags which contained tire threads (linya) which we believe is what they use to tie up security guards,” said Dandaula adding,
“They were also in possession of two brand new panga knives, a crowbar and two big torches.”
A gang of robbers had stormed and broken into Muluzi’s house on the night of Friday, November 7, 2014 and went away with bundles of cash money among others.
According to Dandaula, after the break-in into the energy minister’s house, locations of Area 9, and Area 3 had been hit by a succession of robbery attacks which prompted the police to intensify security around the area.
Of the three, one Kennedy Phiri, 26, from Chikalamu village Traditional Authourity (T/A) Khongoni in Lilongwe district, who resided in Area 22 of the city and another is Imulani Mapira, 28, from Moses village in T/A Mposa, Machinga district, a resident of Area 36.
The third, 24 year old Ronald Talawula is from Saimoni village T/A Saimoni in Neno was a resident of Falls location in the city.
The three suspects join 29 year old Paul Waison who was arrested earlier in relation to the same and the four will soon appear before court to answer a charge of robbery with violence contrary to section 301 of the penal code.
