Kanengo police station in Lilongwe on Tuesday night arrested two notorious criminals with in in possession of a pistol with four bullets which is suspected to be used to terrorize Lilongwe City residents for the past two months.
Ester Mkwanda, Kanengo police public relations officer confirmed the arrest of the two after the station conducted a sweeping exercise in Area 25 and 49 in the capital city,
Mkwanda said the two, Andrew Nyirongo and Benard Kumisuku were on police book list such when they go the tip of whereabouts of these two on March 17, 2015, the station instituted an investigative operation which was accomplished as they arrested them in area 25 where Kumisuku was in possession of the gun.
“The two have been on our book list of criminals for almost two months now such that their arrest is a relief to the entire area 25, 49 and city centre where they were operating their criminal activities. We arrested them after the community alerted us of Kumisuku who accompanied our team to Chinsapo where Nyirongo was staying. But, later, Kumisuku confessed upon found the gun at his house in Area 25”, explains Mkwanda.
Mkwanda has appealed for support from the general public that they should always report people to police who seem to be doing nothing but have possessions of goods suspected to be stolen as that would reduce crime activities in the area.
Nyirongo, 41 years comes from Kacheche village in Traditional Authority Lukwa in Kasungu while Kumisuku originates from Sambe village, Traditional Authority Kapeni in Blantyre, the two are expected appear in court soon to answer charges of robbery with violence and illegal possession of fire arms contrary to section 301 of the penal code
