Malawi Police, Mitundu residents denounce heinous crimes

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Commissioner of Police responsible for Central West Region (CWR) Peter Chasweka, and Mitundu residents have vowed to halt perpetrators of heinous crimes in the area.

The pact was made at Mitundu ground on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 when Blue Eagles Football club played against Mitundu select team as part of awareness and sensitization meeting with the locals.

Said Commissioner Chasweka: “Our crime analysis record shows that cases of murder, mob justice and defilement have been reported in this area. Let us join hands in eradicating such heinous crimes”.

“Our partnership with members of the community generally was strained in the recent past. We are here to rebuild that relationship and cultivate trust on each other,” he added.

The Commissioner also condemned albino attacks, chieftaincy and land wrangles, and deplored smugglers since Mitundu area borders Mozambique.

He therefore warned against offences related to Affordable Input Programme (AIP).

In his welcoming remarks, Traditional Authority (T/A) Chingala pledged support of his subordinates on community policing activities.

Said T/A Chingala: “We are a people who cherish security in our area hence we shall not disappoint”.

Taking his turn, the Ward Councillor for Katope Ward, Sekerani Kamsikili asked for community policing equipment like reflectors, torches and whistles.

However, the Commissioner acknowledged the request and promptly instructed the Officer in-charge for Lilongwe Police Station who was present at the meeting, Clement Gulo, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) to fix that task.

Other dignitaries at the event included the Regional Operations Officer (ROO 1) for CWR, Mr Dennis Banda (SACP), the Regional Executive Committee (REC) chairperson for CWR, Dr Alex Chapondera and the Headmaster for Mitundu Primary school.

In a football match that was played amidst a downpour, Mitundu select team triumphed by three goals to one.

The Community Policing massive awareness meeting at Mitundu is a third stop, after stints at Mlonyeni in Mchinji few weeks ago, and Msundwe in Lilongwe end last year.

On that inaugural activity at Msundwe ground, the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Kainja, accompanied the CWR team.
