NKHOTAKOTA-(MaraviPost)-A 43-year old male health worker at Nkhotakota District Hospital is in the hands of the police for allegedly attempting to rape a mother of the sick daughter.Nkhotakota Police Station Public Relations Officer, William Kaponda told The Maravi Post that the suspect Ian Chimutu, 43 committed the offense on Friday in one of the hospital’s examination rooms.

The Police Station Publicist Kaponda said the victim aged 54 met the fate when she had visited the facility to collect medicine for her sick daughter.

Kaponda said upon the victim’s arrival at the hospital, the suspected nurse called her into the examination room after she informed him of the purpose of the visit.

“Soon after the victim entered into the room, the suspect Chimutu started fondling the woman. He then forced her into the bed, and undressed the victim attempting for a rape. Consequently, the guardian shouted for help.

“Eventually, some clients who heard the screaming rushed into the room to rescue the victim. The matter was later reported to police and the suspect was arrested. The suspect remains in our custody waiting for court appearance soon,” said Kaponda.

Chimutu hails from Phale Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Khombedza in Salima district.
